What is People's Exchange
People’s Exchange is a micro-community space in West Bremerton that strives to create inclusive and accessible spaces for individuals to connect through learning, organizing, playing, working, and resource sharing without barriers. As a cooperatively run community center, we provide space and resources for community members to organize around their individual needs.
History
On 11/11/23 thirty five friends and neighbors got together to dream up a community space. Folks were interested in lending libraries and meal shares, resource distribution, a spot to host meetings and events, and an indoor space to just hang out or play with your kids that doesn’t cost money. Those of us that kept talking soon became our PEX Stewards and now tackle the daily operations of the co-op.
Activities
PEX offers a combination of Open Hours for folks to come hang out, monthly recurring programming and special events. Our Stewards run some of our programming, but the majority of activities happening at PEX are hosted by community members that want to share their unique skills with others. To date we’ve held kids camps, clothing and trinket swaps, craft workshops, repair events, and a variety of monthly social meetups.
Resources
We believe everyone deserves everything and our goal is to reduce barriers to basic necessities. At PEX, you’ll find free hygiene products, safer sex supplies, clothing, food, and harm reduction resources, like Naloxone and Fentanyl test strips available daily. PEX regularly hosts free swap events for household goods, entertainment media, children’s toys and more.
Support
PEX cannot exist without community participation. It is our community makers that teach our skill shares, it is our neighbors that provide our toilet paper, it is our volunteers that run our events, it is our Patreon members that sustain us with monthly financial support, it is our friends that donate resources and it is every one of us that contributes a buck here and there who all keep us operating.
